22 September 2026 | Seville, Spain

On 22 September 2026, ALGAESOL will join forces with fellow Horizon Europe projects BIOVAL and FLEXBY at IDENER.AI’s facilities in Seville for the Clustering Kick-Off Meeting, “Transforming Waste into Sustainable Solutions.” The event will bring together researchers, project partners and stakeholders to explore how European research is driving forward circular, low-waste and zero-pollution production systems.

The meeting offers a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge on innovative approaches that turn waste streams, captured CO₂ and renewable biological resources into valuable products and cleaner industrial solutions, themes that sit at the heart of ALGAESOL’s mission.

A Morning of Collaboration in Seville

Hosted at IDENER.AI’s premises, the event will open with welcome remarks from Alejandra Hidalgo Domínguez, Communication and Dissemination Senior Assistant, followed by an introductory session on the importance of biovalorisation.

The programme will then showcase the complementary work of the three participating projects:

BIOVAL will present its cascade biorefinery approach, covering baseline configurations, high-pressure gas fermentation metrics and progress towards technology scale-up. BIOVAL is developing a next-generation biorefinery that uses microalgae and bacterial gas fermentation to convert biomass waste and captured CO₂ into advanced biofuels, hydrogen, methane and high-value products such as pigments.

FLEXBY will share insights into its microwave-assisted pyrolysis unit configurations, feedstock versatility and downstream processing, highlighting how flexible thermochemical technologies can support more efficient resource recovery.

ALGAESOL will present its algae-based biofuel pathways, CO₂ capture integration, sustainability metrics and progress towards industrial deployment, demonstrating how algae-based solutions can contribute to cleaner energy systems and circular carbon use.

A cross-cutting presentation led by Álvaro Cabeza, Project Coordinator, will connect the three projects’ approaches, underlining the diversity and shared potential of this European research effort in biorefining, circular resource use, carbon valorisation and sustainable technology development.

The morning will close with final remarks and the handover of participation certificates to attendees present on-site.

Building a More Circular Europe, Together

Through Transforming Waste into Sustainable Solutions, ALGAESOL joins BIOVAL and FLEXBY in demonstrating how collaboration between complementary research projects can accelerate the transition towards a more circular, resource-efficient and sustainable Europe.
