Leitat Technological Center has the purpose of transforming emerging technological challenges into solutions of high social, environmental, economic and industrial value. The Spanish Center has long experience in R&D, technology transfer and industrial innovation services in the fields of chemistry, energy, environment, engineering and life sciences.

In ALGAESOL, LEITAT will be involved in:

☀️ Developing a photoanode for sunlight harvesting, and related solar concentrator to maximize the efficiency of the photoelectrochemical reaction
🔄 Coupling the developed photoanode to a microalgae-based bioelectrochemical system
🚢 Developing a hybrid photo(bio)electrochemical systems, generating sustainable shipping fuels (methane and methanol)
📈 Improving a bioelectrochemically assisted anaerobic digestion (AD-BES) system to produce additional biomethane from the organic residue generated within the project
🧪 Optimizing microalgae harvesting and lipid extraction
⚗️ Developing purification methods for the produced shipping fuels (methane and methanol)
🌎 Setting up the sustainability analysis
♻️ Social Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) analysis
